Actual Irony
So a certain someone (if you can guess who, you win a nice vegan chocolate cookie) is berating me for being ironic, hypocritical, mean, and antifeminist for simply calling some people's beliefs stupid. Yes I did refer to their beliefs as "the stupid"--but I was saying that to her and her supporters, of which at least 40% are MALE--so how is my use of a gender-neutral word in a gender neutral context misogynist? If anything, it's more misandrist, because I'm calling their beliefs stupid--and have in the past called people who have pissed me off in general as "being stupid" and whatnot--over half of those I've called stupid have been male, and those females I've called stupid have been defending a largely male preserve, built upon the massive wealth of a few mostly white men, at the expense of women and "lesser" men.

But that is not what makes this truly ironic. The last comment/comment nine that was left in that entry ends like this: "And now I'm all down that someone this stupid and stubborn and unwilling to hear debate is out there."

So, her supporters can call women stupid, but not me? Stunning logic yet again.

Oh, Christ, RE. I'm impressed that you managed to tolerate her that long. She's a worthless waste of space, and pretentious to boot. Some serious issues with other women---any woman who disagrees with her choices and her self-selecting memory.

I don't know how I do it, frankly. It's such a drain, putting up with her and her cronies. Self-selective memory INDEED.

Yeah, the comments defending her range the gamut from lying to untruthful. Fascinating. Blinded little buggers, aren't they?

this from a woman who flat out lied about how I got my nose broken to suit her own agenda? That's rich.

no, what you smell is me clarifying what I actually said, D. I said it was degrading. Look for yourself if your memory is unclear on the matter. Degrading does not automatically equal misogynistic...

And as I've said before, I don't speak for my friends, nor they for me, and, oddly enough, I never claimed that I don't say mean or degrading things to people...because sure enough, I do...however, why yes, I do find it ironic when people who are all YAY FEMINISM EMPOWERMENT UP WITH WOMEN not being degraded (at least not sexually or what have you) then use degrading language towards women themselves. I mean gin's little worthless waste of space line there is pretty charming too...but I expect that kind of shit from her. She's got as much of the asshole gene as I do.

I wasn't saying the misogynist part was, I was saying that you publishing a comment calling me "so stupid" is hypocritical. So it's not degrading when your friends do it, then?

well, like you, I have my own sort of moderation policy on my own blog, which is to say...I don't have one. I pretty much publish everything- agree with it or not. And yep, it's degrading when they do it too.

Not as hypocritical as babbling endlessly about porn, and then linking a song by a porn star who became famous for doing porn as a MINOR.

I guess you endorse (statutory, in this case) rape yourself when it suits you. Physician, heal thyself.

You are fucking dense. I KNOW IT'S CO-SUNG BY TRACI LORDS. I KNOW SHE WAS IN PORNOGRAPHY FROM THE AGES OF 15-18. i've read her autobiography. THE SONG IS ANTIPORN, DITZ.

Me liking her music does not equal me endorsing the fact that pornography was made of her as a child. So do you think that because she was in porn, she should be treated as a pariah? Does that mean me liking the film Cry Baby (a rather PG-13 rated film with Johnny Depp, Ricki Lake, Patricia Hearst, Iggy Popp, etc) is also endorsing rape? What the fuck are you on?

Here are the lyrics again:

"Little Baby Nothing (With Traci Lords)"

No one likes looking at you
Your lack of ego offends male mentality
They need your innocence
To steal vacant love and to destroy
Your beauty and virginity used like toys

My mind is dead, everybody love's me
Wants a slice of me
Hopelessly passive and compatible
Need to belong, oh the roads are scarey
So hold me in your arms
I wanna be your only possession

Used, used, used by men
Used, used, used by men

All they leave behind is money
Paper made out of broken twisted trees
Your pretty face offends
Because it's something real that I can't touch
Eyes, skin, bone, contour, language as a flower

No god reached me, faded films and loving books
Black and white TV
All the world does not exist for me
And if I'm starving, you can feed me lollipops
Your diet will crush me
My life just an old man's memory

Little baby nothing
Loveless slavery, lips kissing empty
Dress your life in loathing
Breaking your mind with Barbie Doll futility

Little baby nothing
Sexually free, made-up to breakup
Assassinated beauty
Moths broken up, quenched at last
The vermin allowed a thought to pass them by

You are pure, you are snow
We are the useless sluts that they mould
Rock 'n' roll is our epiphany
Culture, alienation, boredom and despair

You are pure, you are snow
We are the useless sluts that they mould
Rock 'n' roll is our epiphany
Culture, alienation, boredom and despair

What the fuck are you on?

Strange question, for one who quotes Dines and believes "all porn is rape."

Hey, I don't have any idea what you people believe... you say you hate porn, then you approvingly quote someone who made her NAME (which she uses to get employment) in porn, or you wouldn't even have heard of her. She is somehow worthy of listening to, but Ren isn't.

Ohhh, I get it now. The porn-performer must come to the same conclusions YOU come to and promise to REPENT and never do porn again, right? They must be SAVED, right? I get it now. We are talking to a bunch of EVANGELISTS! Thanks for clearing that up!

You are so full of shit I'm surprised you don't explode from it all.

"Strange question, for one who quotes Dines and believes "all porn is rape."

"Hey, I don't have any idea what you people believe..."

You just contradicted yourself. Congrats. So do you know that we think all porn is rape, or do you know squat? I'd say the latter.

Ren contributes to a culture in which men feel entitled to pornography, and feeds into the fallacious belief that it's harmless.

PS I'm an atheist. No repenting or evangelism here.

Go to your own blog and whine about how the evul strawfeminists are trying to take away your wank stash.

"Ren contributes to a culture in which men feel entitled to pornography, and feeds into the fallacious belief that it's harmless."

Incorrect. I have said, just like with other "vices or guilty pleasures"- from beer to gambling to video games to fast food, porn can be damaging to some people, and not so to others.

I find it somewhat whimsical that you, demonista, call out for a "debate" and then pick and choose who will be allowed to appear in your comments. If you are to have a debate, then all parties should be heard.

Have you taken a second to look at the people that Ren graciously allows to post? Like Byrdeye? This guy is the lowest form of low. Not only does he spew the MRA garbage, but he's a major anti-semite; yet she allows him to post. And she engages him to boot.

Can you say the same? Or do you cherry pick the commenter that you are comfortable with? This reminds me of an old quote:

"If you want to feel good, surround yourself with people that agree with you. If you want to grow, find people that disagree with you"

What are you afraid of?

Outis

when did i say i wanted a debate re: the sex industry? when? find me an example of me calling for debate with me over the sex industry, and i'll kiss your ass.

i don't want a "debate" with assholes.

probably 90% of the comments i get, i unscreen. that's hardly "cherry picking" dumbass. that is hardly me afraid...

Don't let anyone guilt you over your comments policy. They act as if they have a right to have their comments published at your place. They don't. If they need attention so badly, they can try and get it from readers of their own blogs. I personally don't think that allowing vile, misgoynistic, racist (etc.) comments is a good thing- although I get that other bloggers have their own ideas about what is appropriate, and perhaps have different aims in blogging.

I suggest we set phasers to Ignore! (yeah, I know, easier typed than done, huh? :) )
